Overview:

The procurement of ocean freight rates across the Region. To quote, forward book, and monitor the block bookings for the Ocean division. Manage the quote turn times and output quality. Track and report on market movements on Freight, Space, and Equipment. Ensure we are always in contact with clients to offer the best solutions based on freight rates and space in the market. Maximize Profits by prioritizing customers and requirements and managing accounts through regular communication with customers to retain and grow existing business.

Key Job Functions:

  • Quote prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
  • Direct commercial activity with existing customer base to increase share of business.
  • Coordinates liaison between the Ocean division and other related business units to create additional touch points and offer value-added services.
  • Constantly chase up clients for additional cargo.
  • Costing Ocean Freight.
  • Quoting.
  • Maintaining quote volume and output quality.
  • Meeting quote turn times.
  • Constantly monitor capacity and make forward bookings.
  • Manage/document hand over of new clients to operations.
  • Manage individual budget on TEU and Revenue.
  • Sales quoted versus secured monitoring and reporting.
  • Recording of quotes sent.
  • Strategic approach to designated accounts.
  • Own and manage designated account relationships at both customer and carrier level.
  • Partner with operations controllers for the improvement of customer relationships.
  • Attend events and plan regular calls with customers to build strong relationships.
  • Ensure that rates do not lapse.
  • Ensure that there is an actual record of all rates sent out.
  • Report on client and carrier performance against volumes committed.
  • Map out and continuously report on carrier service levels/capacity and product changes.
  • Reviews accounts with customers to identify problems and strategize way forward.
  • Reviews accounts with operations to identify problems and strategize way forward.
  • System updates when required.
  • Feedback on quoting performance monthly.
  • Report on new/noteworthy business secured.
  • Feedback on lost business.
  • Track and record rates quoted and present to the Commercial Manager for budget discussions.
  • Plans and conducts market research to identify opportunities for increased sales.

Education

  • Matric
  • National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in International Trade

Experience

  • 3 – 5 years experience working in Carrier or Forwarding Ocean/Trade environment
  • Working knowledge of Ocean Freight and Export/Import procedures
  • Good Knowledge of Trade Lanes
  • Estimates

Skills

  • High level of computer literacy in MS Office Suite
  • Good Microsoft Excel – Intermediate +
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
