Overview:

As an Import Supervisor, you’ll oversee daily import activities, ensuring efficient shipment coordination, customs compliance, and on-time deliveries. This role involves guiding a team, managing vendor relationships, resolving logistical issues, and maintaining accurate documentation, all while ensuring compliance with import regulations and company standards.

Key Job Functions:

Import Operations Management

Oversee the full import process, including coordination of inbound shipments, customs clearance, and transportation from port to warehouse. Ensure compliance with local and international import/export regulations and company policies.

Team Leadership & Development

Supervise and mentor a team of import clerks and logistics coordinators. Provide training and performance feedback, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

Customs & Compliance

Ensure accurate and timely submission of import documentation to customs authorities, including bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin. Ensure compliance with all local and international regulations to prevent delays or penalties.

Supplier & Vendor Coordination

Liaise with suppliers, shipping agents, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to ensure smooth and timely import operations. Resolve any issues related to shipment delays, discrepancies, or damages.

Problem Resolution

Identify and address any challenges or bottlenecks in the import process, from customs clearance to transportation delays, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Cost Control & Budgeting

Monitor and control the costs associated with import operations. Track and report on performance metrics, and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.

Reporting & Documentation

Prepare and submit regular reports on import activity, customs clearance, and inventory status. Maintain up-to-date records of all import transactions in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

Continuous Improvement

Evaluate existing import procedures and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Requirements

Education

  • Degree / Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certification in Customs & Excise or related courses would be an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in import/export operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role in a logistics or supply chain environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Namibian customs regulations, import documentation, and freight forwarding processes.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of logistics, import procedures, and customs compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify problems and implement solutions.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and logistics software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages would be an advantage.
