Job description and activities:

Installs and repairs automotive air-conditioning units (AC) within workshop and in field, ensuring quality and time guidelines.

Position Objective:

  • Implement in time the activities of routine, preventive, predictive and repair maintenance.
  • Implement seasonal major AC maintenance of heavy equipment once per year.
  • Maintain AC systems in a good physical and operating condition.
  • Monitor AC pressures and temperatures, predict potential failures, optimize AC operation and minimize breakdowns.

Position in the company:

The automotive AC Technician reports directly to the General Supervisor.

Key tasks and accountabilities:

  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with company and manufacturer standards.
  • Diagnoses root cause of any malfunction and performs repair. Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to Foreman.
  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended. Communicates with foreman immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Road-tests vehicles when required.
  • Participates in company-sponsored training programs.
  • Keeps workshop area neat and clean.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all company-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition they were received. Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Inventories freon gas and Nitrogen gas and place order whenever it is required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; twist; bend; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Other tasks as needed.

      Profile, qualifications competencies and skills:

      • Technical school diploma or general education degree (GED), or training courses.
      • Two years related experience
      • Possession of Heating and Air Conditioning Certification for Automobile equipment and Heavy Truck.
      • Or equivalent combination of education, experience and certifications.
      • Ability to read and comprehend parts manuals, interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
      • Ability to request spare parts in written.
      • Ability to use pressure and temperature gauges effectively for troubleshooting.
      • Comprehension of Automotive Air Condition operating principals.
      • Ability to read, speak and write English language effectively.
